Balay Pasilungan - Boys Homeless Centre - Siobhan Reader
Today was our first day at bapas which translates to home. Here there are 30 boys who are aged between 5-15 and Father Long, a social worker, volunteers and housekeepers look after the boys who have been rescued from the street. It is amazing to see how the boys interact with each other as they all get along and help one anotherout. At the home the boys have jobs which they do to help teach them responsibilities. Before we spent time with the boys we made the beds which was just putting sheets onto the mattress which were very thin, but some of the boys prefer to sleep on the floor than in their beds and all of them share one room. During the day Carly, Belinda, Ann and myself looked after the three triplets who are five years old and another boy called Kervey who Carly spent time reading with while us girls played and coloured in with the triplets. It was a lot of fun but very tiring as we were running after them and picking them up. We then had lunch with the boys and before the boys eat and after they all say a pray and it was overwhelming to see how all the boys waited for each other before they lined up to put their plate in the tub. While the boys had a sleep we went and brought some supplies for the activities. The activity I did was colouring in it was nice to be able to sit down with the boys and talk to them. Other activities included uno, playing a card game, and making frogs and paper aeroplanes. Over all I enjoyed the day, the boys are so kind and full of energy.
